The Italian-Swiss shipowner MSC, the world’s leading player in maritime transport in terms of container transport capacity, has decided to strengthen its positions in Le Havre, France’s leading port for foreign trade. On July 8, its port subsidiary TIL (Terminal Investment Limited) – which it controls up to 70%, the rest of the capital being held by American and Singaporean funds specializing in infrastructure – unveiled on July 8 an investment of 700 million euros in gantries and tools at Port 2000, the deep-water container port of Le Havre, where it is already established alongside its neighbor and competitor GMP, owned by CMA-CGM and China Merchant. “We want to triple the capacity of our terminal, passing from 1.3 million containers handled per year at Port 2000 to 4.5 million said David El-Bez, director of TIL.
