Bob Refelson he was born in New York in 1933, shortly before the Second World War. He developed an interest in Japanese cinema and Yasujiro Ozu’s films while serving in the United States Army in Japan.

His journey into the world of cinema and the seventh art begins with TV in the 1950s, where he works as an editor. To completely change his career and his destiny is the meeting with Bert Schneider with whom he founded Raybert Productions which then became BBS Productions.

He was best known for his work during the era of New Hollywoodwhich saw a classic studio system give way to a host of rebellious young voices and new directing styles, and helped usher in talents such as Martin Scorsese, Brian De Palma, Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Spielberg.

Rafelson directed and co-wrote Five easy pieces e The king of Marvin’s gardens. Both films starred Jack Nicholson and explored the themes of the American dream gone haywire. The first mentioned film earned two Oscar nominations in 1971 for Best Picture and Screenplay.

Coppola once called him “one of the most important film artists of his time” and among his fans are Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson. Rafelson left Hollywood several years ago to pursue his family and two children with second wife Taurek.
