A 54-year-old was injured on a guided tour through the gorge on Saturday afternoon. The weather had already changed during the recovery.
According to the mountain rescue, the man had injured his spine while jumping in the gorge. 15 mountain rescuers from Hallein abseiled down to the casualty and looked after him until the rescue helicopter Martin 1. “We always secure the area and make sure that there are no people in the danger area when the helicopter team collects the rope,” said operations manager Wolfgang Gadermayer with his team had to pay particular attention to the acute risk of falling rocks in the poor weather conditions. While taking care of the accident victim, a mountain rescuer fell. “He suffered minor back injuries and was also rescued by the rescue helicopter team Martin 1 on the variable rope.”
The two injured were flown to the Salzburg State Hospital and the Salzburg Accident Hospital.
In addition to the Hallein mountain rescue service, members of the Adnet volunteer fire brigade, the rescue helicopter teams from Martin 1 and C6 and members of the Red Cross were on duty. The L107, Wiestal Landesstraße, was closed in both directions for the duration of the rescue.
