Gerrit has been a truck driver for 25 years and sometimes experiences something on the road. But last Thursday morning, even Gerrit was dumbfounded when he drove at the Hooipolder junction. “He was early on the way to Gorinchem. I had to deliver a load of steel to my first customer”, says Gerrit.

“It was about half past seven, I had just been on the road for 5 minutes when I suddenly saw a Volvo and van standing next to each other. In front of green traffic lights.”
Crazy face
Gerrit wanted to honk – he was in a slight hurry – until he saw what was going on. “The tank hose was still attached to the Volvo car!” Gerrit spits out. “It looks like the Volvo was running on gas. The gas hose dangled happily behind it.”
The driver in the van next to the Volvo was busy warning the motorist, the trucker says. “He didn’t seem to have a clue what he was carrying with him.”

It all ended well, says Gerrit. “The two turned left after the traffic lights to sort things out. Then I drove on again.”
Dashcam
The trucker has had a dashcam in his cabin for a few years now. He captured the scene. “I have such a dashcam because sometimes such idiots drive on the road. Unfortunately, that has only gotten worse in recent years.”
Has Gerrit ever seen someone with a tank hose on his car in all his trucker years? “No. I know it happens more than once, but I’ve never seen it before. It’s still a hilarious scene to watch.”
