Motorcycle: a “child’s dream” comes true for Montluçonnais Xavier Flick on the Dakar 2021

Xavier Flick wants to go straight, but above all to have fun… This motorcycle rider from 25 years, native Montluçon (Allier), indeed takes part in its first Dakar, whose prologue took place this Saturday, January 2, 2021 in Saudi Arabia. Born in the city of the banks of Cher, Xavier is none other than the son of François Flick, who himself completed the legendary rally-raid on seven occasions between 1998 and 2005.

His journey

Motocross-fed in the MC Montlucon, the son joined the high level sector of the French Federation, in enduro, at the age of 18. A title of vice-champion of France cross-country elites in 2018, a third place in enduro among juniors the same year, or a victory at the rally of Morocco last year in the Enduro cup category. In short, it’s a big deal for the one who left MCM and Montluçon in 2018 in order to move to Brittany.

His first Dakar

“I always wanted to do it and I grew up with this dream seeing my dad. There it is, I finally live my childhood dream. “

He can thank the Team XTream Racing, the Franco-Moroccan team for which he rides. As well as the many technical and financial partners, some of whom come from the Allier, which enabled it to make ends meet with its budget of around 100.000 euros.

Prologue and first stage

Now it’s time for Xavier Flick, who is competing on this Dakar as amateur pilot in the motorcycles / quads category. This Saturday, during the 129 km prologue around the city of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), he finished at a promising 31st place out of 101 less than a minute from the best pros.

My goal is above all to go to the end, to finish this first Dakar, I trained for that. Everything else will be a bonus, although of course I really want to do well ?!

This Sunday, January 3, start of the first real stage, 623 km long, from Jeddah to Bisha. There will be eleven more like this, for a total of some 8,000 kilometers – and at least as many grains of sand – to swallow …
