Motor vehicle liability in Freiburg and the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district is cheaper

Insurance association presents positive damage balance for southern Baden

The General Association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV) announced lower premiums for their motor vehicle liability insurance for all motorists in Freiburg and the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district on Tuesday (25.08.2020). This emerges from the annual review of the loss balance sheet.

Every year, the GDV calculates how many accidents and associated costs there are in the 413 German registration areas and divides them into so-called regional classes. Where the insurers had to pay a lot, i.e. there were a lot of accidents, the premiums rise. In return, the better a district is rated, the lower the costs. In eight of the 44 registration districts in Baden-Württemberg, lower costs for motor vehicle liability insurance apply immediately. The beneficiaries include car owners from Freiburg and the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, among others.

Overall car insurance is still not cheaper

However, the costs for car insurance also depend on many other factors, so that the changed classification alone does not say how the total premium for car insurance will develop. In the separately calculated regional classes for comprehensive insurance, for example, the premium for car owners from the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district increases.
The association emphasizes that there is no point in keeping your home registration number when you move. The insurance companies classify the contracts solely on the basis of the place of residence, not the license plate number of the car.

In the case of old contracts, however, the contributions do not fall immediately, but usually on the main due date, which is usually at the turn of the year. The new regional classes already apply to new contracts.
