From Prague to Ostrava for 9 CZK. Price wars are returning to college

It is reminiscent of the times when private carriers – Regiojet and Leo Express – began to compete with the state-owned Czech Railways for the busiest domestic line from Prague to Ostrava. A step similar to the then price war was taken by Leo Express, which offered a limited number of tickets from Prague to Ostrava for nine crowns.

The first server informed about the step of the smaller of the two main rivals of Czech Railways – with Leo Express running with black trains zdopravy.cz.

It is not yet clear whether this is just a marketing move or a new pricing policy. “The offer is valid until the end of this year’s schedule. Cheap tickets can be found in the reservation system more than 30 days before departure. Already in October, passengers can ride for 9 crowns, “said company spokesman Emil Sedlařík.

Under the onslaught of thousands of shoppers, the carrier’s server crashed three times on the opening day of the offer, although it was strengthened before the sale began, the spokesman noted.

Attempts to book such cheap tickets show that the usual practice will offer a very limited number (one) and another at slightly higher prices. “Up to 5 percent of tickets on individual routes cost 9 crowns and then the price gradually rises,” Sedlařík wrote.

This system of so-called dynamic fare is used not only by train carriers, but also by ticket and bus ticket vendors.

“Customers will catch the most tickets at low prices from nine crowns on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, when fewer customers travel, but they will also be able to buy cheaply in the following days. The price of the ticket largely depends on the number of free seats on the train, “the company specified in a report for the media.
