MotoGP: Andrea Dovizioso recounts his accident

Andrea Dovizioso had persuaded his Ducati employer that participating in this official motocross race would do him the greatest good in his preparation for the 2020 season. Three weeks before the launch of hostilities in Jerez, Ducati finds himself with his injured advanced pilot. An accident which occurred not during ordinary training, but during a motocross competition. The manufacturer had authorized Andrea Dovizioso to do it, despite the risks involved. In Emilia-Romagna, on the Monte Coralli track, Andrea Dovizioso qualified for a promising 6th place in the morning. In the first heat Dovi had made an excellent start placing him in 2nd position. But the high pace and the difficulties of the track in the middle of the race made him fall back to 9th place. It was while trying to go up that he suffered a violent fall.

The triple vice-world champion says on La Gazzetta dello Sport: “ I landed after a jump and the rear left on the shiny surface of the ground before the front got stuck. I did a highside and landed on the shoulder. The first thought was that the scapula had broken, and then I started to feel bad at the collarbone. He adds : ” the pace of the best drivers was significantly faster than mine ».

Dovizioso also received a blow on the head: ” for the first few seconds I saw everything blurry ” Since then, the speeches have been reassuring, speaking of a clear wound that could have been treated without surgery. But this was necessary to accelerate convalescence, so that the official Ducati can hold its rank at Jerez. It remains to be seen whether the plate placed for this purpose will resist the violent constraints which will be imposed on it by the rider on the verge of a physical MotoGP like the Desmosedici…
