A five-year-old boy died drowning while bathing in the river – his mother also died trying to save him. The two went down in the water, the police said in the evening.
After the boy disappeared, the mother had tried to save him. She was in need herself and a passer-by pulled her out of the water. According to the police, the 30-year-old woman then ran into the Rhine again. Her 13-year-old daughter had also tried to help her brother in the river.
Water protection brought the girl ashore unscathed. The mother and son were found after one and two hours of searching. Despite attempts at resuscitation, the two could not be saved.
