Meerbusch. Mothers far too rarely have beautiful photos of themselves and their children, says photographer Melanie Osterried. She wants to change this with her “Mother Heart” project.

Parents take countless photos of their children. Often it is the women in the family who hold the camera in their hands. The side effect of that? Mothers are much less seen in family photos than other family members. The photographer Melanie Osterried had this experience herself and came up with the idea for her “Mother Heart” project. For this project she would like to portray at least 21 mothers with their children in 2021. “With the project I want to show how diverse motherhood is and create photo memories for as many mothers as possible,” says Melanie Osterried.

For the project, she put together a special package for her customers. These receive professional hair styling and make-up and are skilfully staged in the photo studio. Everything relaxed and without pressure. “There is a lot of laughing, dancing and cuddling at the photo shoots,” explains the photographer, “The time in the photo studio is in itself an experience for the mothers and as a result they get wonderful portraits that show the intimate relationship between them and theirs Hold on to children. “

Melanie Osterried sees the project as a homage to all mothers: “Especially in the current times we are doing more than ever, Corona demands so much from us. It is high time that we mothers were celebrated. “

The photographer presents the photos of the mothers and their stories online and offline. After the project is over, there will be a vernissage and a closing party for all participating mothers, where the portraits will be exhibited. The photographer is certain that the pictures will also have a much longer-term effect. Namely when the children have grown up and want to take a look into the past, for example when they become parents themselves.
