Imphal: The mother of one of the girls who were stripped naked in Manipur criticized the government. The girl’s mother told the national media, NDTV, that the Manipur government is not doing anything to stop the conflict or protect the people. She added that she would never return to that village.
‘They have shown the most extreme cruelty to my daughter. My youngest son, who was my only hope, was killed. I sent him to school despite the hardships, hoping that my family would be saved if he studied well. Their father was also killed. Why am I alive now? I have no hope anymore.’
‘We will never return to our village again. They burned our houses. Farms were destroyed. Why go back there? They burnt my whole village. I don’t know what fate awaits me and my family. The woman who was sexually assaulted had earlier revealed that the police had given her over to the mob. The woman said that they were with the police before they were assaulted and the police left them on the road along with the gang of attackers.
The policemen were on the spot when the miscreants attacked the village. The woman also says that the police who took them from their home, handed them over to the assailants at a place far away from the village.
