“It was really terrible,” a witness tells the Belgian Newspaper. “We were startled by a horrible screaming and screaming and then I suddenly saw that woman lying on the ground. She was all bloodied.”
Local residents immediately come to the rescue and try to catch the perpetrator. But without result. “Madam died in front of our eyes here on the street. I’ve lived here since 1996 and I’ve never experienced anything like this in this neighborhood.”
Suspect
A suspect has since been arrested, but it is not yet clear whether he is known to the woman. According to the mother’s family, who have been offered victim assistance, this is not the case. The Brussels public prosecutor has launched an investigation.
The residents and the mayor of the municipality of Evere are shocked. “The death of this mother of three children is a tragedy for her family, her loved ones and for the municipality of Evere,” Mayor Ridouane Chahid wrote in a statement. “Ever. The municipality of Evere is by their side and will provide all necessary support.”
