“Most will take it off and are happy to do so”

The health protocol is lifted in companies, which implies the end of the mandatory mask in offices. However, the mask remains required in public transport and health establishments.

This Monday, we drop the masks almost everywhere in the country: schools, shops, but also in business. Employees will be able to see the faces of their colleagues in the open space. Friday was the last day of masked work for the employees of a Parisian consulting firm.

In the open space of this company, the faces were still masked on Friday. This has been the case since September 1, 2020. Léonie was hired a little over a year ago in the company. She therefore always wore the mask in the office. Removing it will change him. But she is happy.

“I’m happy to take it off, we breathe better. Without it, it’s simply more pleasant,” she says.

Because wearing the mask at work is very often disturbing, it keeps you warm, it itches, but taking it off also means seeing the smile again, or at least the faces of colleagues.
“We see each other in video, without a mask, since with work that is also democratized. So the faces we saw them, but it’s always better to see a whole face. The masks are falling off and that’s good,” he confides.

Don’t give up the mask altogether

Nevertheless, some prefer to continue to wear it. Arnaud Sourisseau is the founder of the company, he leaves the choice to his employees. “We are really going to let each employee do as they see fit. We have one in particular whose sister we know had a long covid. His parents are also somewhat at risk people so he prefers to keep him. But most will take it off and be happy to do so,” he says.

And there are many French people who are happy to remove the mask, but the epidemic should not be completely forgotten. Bruno Mégarbane is the head of the intensive care unit at Lariboisière hospital in Paris.

“The most fragile, the oldest, people with heavy comorbidities still run the same risk as at the start. This is why these people must be careful and know how to put on the mask on the right occasions. The mask will not completely disappear, it will have to be taken out at the right time”, he indicates.

Wearing a mask remains compulsory in public transport and in medical and medico-social establishments.
