The RMV boss sees increasing acceptance. Prevention teams are out and about in buses and trains.
The number of those who refuse to wear a mask on buses and trains is negligible. Less than one percent of all passengers have been completely without a mouth and nose covering in the last few weeks. Another seven percent had their coverage incorrectly, according to the interim report published on Monday by the “prevention team” of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). Since mid-August, it has been intended to supplement joint controls with the regulatory authorities. The 36 employees are on duty in the entire network area from Monday to Saturday between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. They inform passengers of the obligation to cover their face and nose and hand out masks to those who are topless. The RMV has invested almost 200,000 euros in this.
Passengers
No major events, short-time work, home office: Because of the corona pandemic, many reasons to use local public transport are still missing.
In April, when the contact restrictions were the strictest, the number of passengers fell by 80 to 90 percent compared to the same month last year, according to RMV.
Passenger numbers have been rising again since May and are currently almost 65 percent in the S-Bahn network compared to the same month last year.

According to the information, the teams met more than 300,000 passengers in the 50 days. According to her observation, the number of those with incorrectly worn masks has decreased. In regional rail traffic, it fell from just under seven to a good five percent over September.
The RMV people met with resistance in the rarest of cases: Those who were caught without or with incorrectly worn protection showed that more than 88 percent showed understanding. Corrected the fit of his mask or accepted one from the prevention team.
RMV managing director Knut Ringat is satisfied: The overwhelming majority adhere to the obligation. The speech already shows a great effect. “The fact that the number of mask refusers does not increase over time and that fewer passengers wear the masks incorrectly shows that the combination of mask distribution campaigns, approach by staff and joint priority checks with the authorities is effective.”
Because the prevention teams are not the only ones who take care of protection against Corona. The local transport companies are also active according to RMV. The inspection staff from Eswe Verkehr in Wiesbaden, for example, have already checked several times together with the state police or the city police. In Darmstadt the local police support the regular controls of Heag mobilo.
In Frankfurt, too, the police and VGF recently announced that they would continue their joint controls of the mask requirement in trains and underground stations. During two two-hour checks in mid-September, they found almost 60 violations. That costs only slightly more than driving without a ticket: the fine for not wearing the mask is 50 euros.
