Most used Asians in the Bundesliga: Hasebe jumps to the top

Cha caught up

Makoto Hasebe (photo) not only made a strong game for Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday against Werder Bremen, but also a historic one. The Japanese recorded his 308th Bundesliga appearance in the 3-0 away win – not an anniversary, but a record. Hasebe caught up with South Korean Beom-keun Cha, who was also active in the SBU and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga in the 1980s. This makes Hasebe, together with Cha, the most used player from an Asian country in Bundesliga history (Confederation AFC without Australia).

Remarkable: More than half of the top 20 most-used Asians in the Bundesliga are made up of Japanese players. Five players collected more than 200 bets: two from Japan, two from South Korea and one from Iran. The latter country is represented four times in the ranking with icons such as Ali Daei or Mehdi Mahdavikia. In terms of exotic, Youssef Mohamad, who was ranked 16th in the top 20, is one of only two Lebanese who have been active in the Bundesliga so far.

Meanwhile, Hasebe already has the opportunity to take the sole lead in the ranking at the weekend. Eintracht will meet Mainz 05 on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky & TM live ticker). For Hasebe, in addition to his 309th appearance in the German House of Lords, it would also be his 205th game for the SBU as a whole.
