Moscow threatens to strike NATO aid to Ukraine (Review)

VLADIMIR PUTIN

Moscow has threatened to attack military sites in NATO countries that support Ukraine, the Daily Mail reported. Attacks by diplomats in Kyiv are not ruled out, they added.

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, suggested that strikes against NATO member states that supply weapons to Ukraine could be allowed.

“Do we understand correctly that in the name of disrupting the logistics of military supplies, Russia can strike at military targets on the territory of those NATO countries that supply weapons to the regime in Kyiv?” She warned. “Ultimately, this directly leads to deaths and bloodshed on Ukrainian territory,” the ministry spokeswoman added.

Her remarks came in response to a statement by British Armed Forces Minister James Happy, who said his country supported Ukrainian air strikes on Russian infrastructure. He added that it would be “perfectly legitimate” for British weapons to be used in such attacks, although there is no evidence yet that this has happened.

The Kremlin hastened to accuse it of “provocation” and used the moment to warn that with tensions escalating, Russia would also be ready to retaliate against Kyiv’s “decision-making centers” for revenge, even if Western diplomats were present. .

Amid escalating tensions between NATO and Moscow leaders, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has been accused of “hesitancy” over his stance on the war, has decided to send anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine. This is due to ongoing disputes in the ruling coalition and criticism over the delay in promised arms deliveries.

About 50 Gepard systems capable of hitting ground and air targets at a distance of 6 km will be provided to Ukraine, according to Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht.

She says German forces will train Ukrainian soldiers to use the armored Panzerhaubitze 2000, a long-range weapon that the Netherlands will deliver.

Ukraine, meanwhile, said Russian troops have stepped up in the Transnistrian region. Moscow’s army is in full combat readiness, and there were several explosions near a large ammunition depot on Wednesday. Russia has denied firing on Moldova’s separatist region and blamed Ukraine for the attack.
