A large amount of mortar shells and old ammunition was found at a metal recycling company in Venlo. Police raided the property on Saturday for suspicion of money laundering and violation of environmental regulations.
The homes of three employees and an accounting firm were also searched. During the raids, 400,000 euros in cash and some expensive cars were seized.
The site of the recycling company will be closed and secured in the coming days, the Public Prosecution Service says 1Limburg. The Explosives Ordnance Disposal Service will need the coming days to safely dispose of the explosives.
The business operations of the company have been shut down. The investigation into the company is being conducted by FIOD, the police, a special search team from Defense, the municipality of Venlo and the Public Prosecution Service. Justice expects to be able to say more about what has been found at the company tomorrow.
