Morocco is the first Muslim country to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup

Morocco made history as the first Muslim country to qualify for the semi-finals World Cup 2022 after beating Portugal 1-0 in the quarter-finals on Saturday (11/12).

A goal from Youssef En Nesyri in the 42nd minute secured Morocco’s 1-0 win over Portugal in the top 8 of the 2022 World Cup which took place at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.

History was created. Morocco is the first African country, as well as the first Arab and Muslim country, to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup.

Morocco’s victory was also celebrated by African and Arab countries. Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby said his country was ready to support Morocco in the 2022 World Cup.

“Historic and extraordinary! The success of the Atlas Lions in reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup belongs to all of Africa. Full support to the African representatives to make it to the grand final. African world champions, yes it is possible, God willing !” wrote Deby quoted by Reuters.

Also Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Dubai Ruler Mohammed bin Rashed, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah and the Crown Prince of Jordan Hussein congratulated the Moroccan national team.

“We rejoice when the Arabs rejoice, this is a historic victory,” wrote Mohammad Shtayyeh.

Morocco will face France in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, on Thursday (15/12) at morning WIB. France progressed to the semi-finals after beating England in 2022.

Meanwhile, the other semi-final will see Croatia vs Argentina together which will be played on Wednesday (14/12) in the morning WIB.
