Buenos Aires – (dpa)
Argentine security forces have detained more than 6,000 people since widespread restrictions on personal movement were imposed in an effort to combat the pandemic of the emerging Corona virus.

A statement issued by the Argentine presidency on Thursday said that criminal charges have been brought against 6,191 people across the country.

The statement added that the police said that they had confiscated 938 vehicles, and that more than 200,000 people were returned to their homes during the inspection, as they were not permitted to move freely outside their homes.

To date, 503 people in Argentina have contracted the emerging coronavirus and nine have died.

The government decided to close the country, in order to slow the spread of the virus, as people across the country are not allowed to leave their homes until March 31.

Only groceries and drugstores are allowed to go nearby, although core workers are exempt from the curfew.

The exemption includes doctors, nurses, police officers, store workers, pharmacy and logistics workers, and employees in the food, pharmaceutical, and petroleum industries.
