More than 500,000 new retirees will no longer pay health insurance | Romania

The government has established in an emergency ordinance that for pensioners who earn an income of up to 872 lei per month, the payment of the contribution of these insurance will be made from the state budget.

The decision follows the increase of the pension point from 740 lei and the harmonization of the new tax code with the health law, as stated by the spokesman of the Executive, Dan Suciu.

The measure will affect about 500,000 people who will add to the nearly two million pensioners exempted from paying the social health insurance contribution from the state budget last year when the pension point was 740 lei.

Another modification offers insured persons the possibility to change family doctor even before the deadline of six months from the date of registration in his lists.

At the same time, the Health Card can be used for the validation and settlement by the Single Health Insurance Fund of the only services actually provided and for which the insured has presented himself to the provider of medical services.
