In the past year, scientists were more visibly present than ever because of the corona crisis. Has that changed the perception of science? To find out, Minister of Science Policy Hilde Crevits had this investigated in the annual science barometer, a survey of 1300 Flemish people about their trust in science. Seven out of ten respondents have great confidence in science in general.
Which trust remained stable and even increased for some during the corona crisis. “Despite the ongoing crisis and difficult times, the Flemish continue to recognize and trust the importance of science,” said the minister. In addition, about four in five participants find science important, both for everyday life and for the economy. They also find science without direct practical use valuable.
