In the United States, more than 170,000 people have now died from the effects of the corona virus. That appears from Numbers from Johns Hopkins University.
Florida, Texas and Louisiana are currently the hardest hit. In Texas, more than 10,000 people have now died from Covid-19.
The states with the highest total death tolls are the ones that were affected at the start of the outbreak and now appear to be in control of the virus. New York State has been hit hardest with a total death toll of 32,840.
The US leads the world ranking in terms of the number of corona deaths, followed by Brazil (over 107,000) and Mexico (over 56,000). Worldwide, nearly 774,000 people have died from the effects of the virus.
A quarter of global infections come from the United States
Across the US, more than 5.4 million people are infected with the corona virus, which is more than a quarter of the worldwide total of 21.6 million infected people. The actual number of infections is probably higher because the testing capacity in the country is still not up to standard.
Health officials fear that the numbers will rise even further in the fall when the flu wave sets in. The director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American equivalent of the RIVM, warns that the US must get ready for a “bad fall” if the public does not follow health rules.
