Cuban Jorge Luis Romero, subtitle of the 54 kilos in the I World Boxing Championship, died today in this city after complications with blood pressure.
“Mourning in Cuban sports, which loses one of its glories,” Inder president Osvaldo Vento Montiller wrote on his twitter account.
Romero inscribed his name in silver in the event of the world hosted by the Coliseum of the Ciudad Deportiva de La Habana, where he debuted with a triumph over the Dominican José Caba and added another three victories.
His next victims were the Ugandan John Byaruhanga, the Argentine Hugo Aguilera and the Soviet David Torosyan, before falling through the belt at the hands of the Puerto Rican Wilfredo Gómez.
Medalist in other level tournaments, was characterized by his bravery on the ring and mastery of technique, qualities that he instilled in his students when he served as a coach.
By family decision, his body will be cremated.
