More than 100,000 Hispanics in Dallas have not completed their vaccination against covid-19

More than 536,000 Hispanics in Dallas over the age of 10 have been fully vaccinated against covid-19, which means that 54 out of 100 Hispanics in the county are inoculated against the disease, according to data from the Department of Health and Human Services County.

In Dallas, with a population that exceeds one million Hispanic inhabitants, of which some 979,000 are older than 10 years, this demographic group leads in vaccination against covid-19. More than 638,000 Latino residents have received at least one dose against the disease, which represents 65.2% of the total. Only between June and July this year, more than 130,000 people applied the vaccine.

Dallas County only reports vaccination figures for ages 10 and older. Vaccines for children are still not reported in local statistics. The county applies vaccines for children under 5 years of age since June.

However, this also means that more than 100,000 Hispanics in Dallas have not completed their vaccinations. In Tarrant, more than 47,000 Latinos are overdue for their second doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, according to county data. In Tarrant, which includes the cities of Fort Worth and Arlington, almost half as many Hispanic vaccines have been applied as Dallas, 351,044 compared to 638,000.

According to the analysis of vaccination data from Dallas, 84% of Hispanics who have started their vaccination against covid-19 have completed it. In Tarrant, where immunizations of the entire population are also counted, including those under 5 years of age, the estimated figure is 86%.

Among the challenges for health authorities is convincing people who have not been vaccinated at all, as well as emphasizing the importance of getting a booster, and much of the recent awareness campaigns have been directed at this issue.

“Although these vaccines may seem new, the clinical trials and approval processes have been extensive, and the vaccines have proven to be safe and effective,” the county judge posted on his Twitter account last Thursday. Clay Jenkins. The official was infected with covid-19 this week, but reports mild symptoms.

For the past couple of months, DCHHS vaccination drives have been located at sites frequented by vulnerable or racial minority populations, such as Lake Highlands High School, or the Northwest Vickery Meadow Community Centers or T. R. Hoover de South Dallas.
