More states join preparations to reopen next week

Washington – More than a dozen states in the United States are preparing to revive their economy over the next week, despite the number of infections by coronavirus in the country it does not stop growing with more than 900,000 and the deaths now exceed 50,000.

Iowa and Mississippi have been the last states to announce that they will revive activities over the next week.

In the case of Iowa, with nearly 4,500 confirmed COVID-19 infections as of today, farmers markets will open next Monday, while hospitals will be allowed to carry out “nonessential” surgical operations, under certain conditions. .

Meanwhile, in Mississippi, with more than 5,400 confirmed cases, the governor, the Republican Tate Reeves, has ordered the resumption of the activities of some businesses, although he maintains the recommendations for social distancing and that people stay home as much as possible.

In the process of reopening

These states are the last to join a list of several that have begun to take measures to revive their economies., like Florida, where beaches and parks have reopened; Minnesota, where some sports and leisure stores may open their doors; and South Carolina and Georgia, which have practically lifted restrictions on economic activities.

Also starting Monday, Tennessee will allow restaurants to offer service on their premises again and some businesses to return to activity, as long as their capacity does not reach half their maximum.

Meanwhile, this weekend, police are asking residents of southern California areas to avoid the temptation to go to the beach with the arrival of high temperatures.

The Washington Post reported that the beaches of Los Angeles and San Diego counties in that state remain closed, but those of Ventura and Orange counties are already reopened to the public, and those of San Diego will do so on Monday.

The limitations have not prevented people from going to beaches, such as Newport, in California, which welcomed 40,000 people on Friday due to the heat wave that hit the area, according to local channel FOX 11.

The number of infections is moving towards a million

States are beginning to reopen, despite the COVID-19 pandemic advancing inexorably in the United States, the country most affected by the pandemic in absolute terms, where, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University, there are 52,782 deaths and 924,576 cases detected.

The health crisis is causing a serious deterioration in the economy and the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected this Friday that the country’s fiscal deficit will triple to $ 3.7 trillion, while unemployment will reach 16% due to the COVID-19 crisis.

According to the CBO, a non-partisan body of Congress, the deficit at the end of fiscal year 2020 will be 3.7 billion, while in 2021 it will drop to 2.1 billion.

Before the coronavirus crisis, the unemployment rate was 3.8%, considered practically full employment; however, in the last five weeks, nearly 27 million jobs have been destroyed due to the economic slowdown.
