More display: Motorola brings edge smartphone around the corner

before 18 min.

Wait, that happened before, right? Motorola’s new smartphone design pulls the display around the edges of the device. The 5G-capable Edge also has some exciting features.

After the folding phone Razr, Motorola brings another smartphone with an unusual design. On the Motorola Edge, the display edges are drawn around the corners of the device and take up a good half of the outside.

A similar design followed Samsung a few years ago with the Galaxy and Note Edge models. This should give users new opportunities to operate the Android smartphones Offer.

For example, by moving buttons or controls to the display edges. Also on board: 5G radio technology for faster data transmission. The Edge will cost 599 euros and will be available in June at the latest.

Three cameras with wide-angle, telephoto and macro lenses

Inside is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765, 128 gigabytes (GB) of storage and 6 GB of RAM. The resolution of the 6.67-inch OLED display is 2340 by 1080 pixels. It can display image content with high contrast spaces in HDR10 and a maximum refresh rate of 90 Hertz.

There are also three cameras with 64, 16 and 8 megapixels resolution with wide-angle, telephoto and macro lenses. The camera battery receives software support and can, for example, select image sections itself or take high-resolution zoom images.

Laser autofocus on board

Using laser autofocus, it should be able to focus particularly quickly and determine depth information. The Edge records videos in 4K resolution (3840 to 2160 pixels) at 30 frames per second.

The dual SIM device with Android 10 and a lavish 4500 mAh battery starts at the same time as the larger Motorola Edge +, which is not intended for the German market for the time being. It has the larger Snapdragon 865 processor, 12 GB of RAM, a 108 megapixel main camera and wireless fast charge. It can also film videos in 6K resolution. So far, Motorola has not revealed why the Edge + is being withheld from the German market. (dpa)
