The ministry also warns in general: “Omicron is less dangerous than Delta, but people are still dying from or with Corona. That’s why the situation should not be underestimated and caution is still required, especially with a view to autumn.”
The situation in the hospitals is currently very tense
In addition, the “currently very tense situation in the Bavarian hospitals” shows that the federal government “urgently accelerates the preparations for a possible new corona wave in autumn”.
However, as the Ministry of Health explains, it cannot be answered clearly whether the patients counted in the statistics only come to the hospital with or because of Corona. “Any hospitalization related to COVID-19” is reportable. This means that there is a connection, but not that it is certain that Corona is also the cause of the delivery. However, it should be clear that the cause is different – for example if a patient is admitted because of a traffic accident and tests positive – it is not reportable.
