Hope for a new medal decision in Los Angeles in 2028
The “World Triathlon” association actually wanted to start with the new format before the Olympic Games in Tokyo – but the premiere planned for June on the Formula 1 circuit in Montreal (Canada) has now been postponed. The new race weekend from August 13th to 15th is one week before the finale of the World Triathlon Championship Series 2021 in Edmonton (also Canada). They want to gain time in the hope that travel will then be easier, as the association has now announced. Considerations that a world-class field would hardly have come about shortly before the Olympic Games under all the restrictions may also have played a role. And a world-class field is important for the format, because World Triathlon has big plans: After the rejection of a corresponding proposal for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, medals for the best eliminators are to be awarded for the first time in Los Angeles in 2028 at the latest.
Duathlon World Championships in Zofingen postponed
As World Triathlon announced, in addition to the World Triathlon Championship Series race in Montreal, the long distance world championship in duathlon will also be postponed. Zofingen will not welcome the best two fighters in the world in May as planned, but on September 19, 2021.
