New Zealand is quarantined nationwide due to one case of infection

The infected 58-year-old New Zealander lives in Auckland and visited nearby Coromandel. These cities are therefore facing a seven-day deadline, and in the rest of the country the measures will take three days. According to Ardern, the authorities assume that the man became infected with the delta variant, but they have not yet confirmed this. They are now searching for the source of the infection.

The closure will take effect on the Tuesday before midnight local time, with people having to stay at home and avoid contact with others. Most people can leave home only when necessary.

New Zealand has so far successfully faced an epidemic compared to other countries, partly due to severe constraints and geographical status. The last spread was recorded in February this year. Since the onset of the epidemic, 26 people have died with coronavirus.

According to Our World in Data, 18.7 percent of people in New Zealand have so far been fully vaccinated, and 32.3 percent of the population have received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine.
