MONTHELON: A new plant to treat drinking water

Since the end of last March, subscribers belonging to the Gourgeoise union, namely the inhabitants of the municipalities of Brion, Laizy and Monthelon have had drinking water in accordance with the standards decreed by the Regional Health Agency. Indeed, the union, created in 1964 and now chaired by François De Guelis, has created a new water treatment and remineralization plant. For this new unit, the union has chosen to filter the remineralization by a terrestrial limestone product and by treating the water by adding chlorine and soda. The use of this technology therefore required the construction of a new building located a few meters from a collection well. This new unit, located in the hamlet of En Lée, has been fitted with a cabinet allowing automated control of the plant and an anti-intrusion alarm system.

For the Syndicat de la Gourgeoise, the cost of the operation amounts to 602,668 euros excluding tax. To carry out this operation, the union received a subsidy of 154,815 euros from the Loire-Bretagne Water Agency and contracted a loan of 200,000 euros from the manique des Territoires. The self-financing portion amounts to 247,853 euros.
The Monthelon well and therefore the new remineralization and water treatment unit are of particular importance. In addition to supplying drinking water to subscribers in Monthelon, Brion and Laizy, the installation via an interconnection also makes it possible to supply, during low water periods, the municipalities to La Grande-Verrière and Saint-Léger sous Beuvray. “In order to make the drinking water network even more secure, an interconnection is planned with the SMEMAC plant in Saint-Blaise,” says François De Guelis.
It was this Friday that the new Monthelon factory was inaugurated in the presence of Marc Makhlouf, Sub-prefect of the Autun district, Catherine Amiot, vice-president of the Department of Saône-et-Loire, Fabrice Voillot, regional councilor or Marie-Claude Barnay, president of Grand Autunois-Morvan.
Residents are invited to come and discover this unit this Saturday, September 18 from 10 to 12 noon.
