Monkeypox Vaccination and Control in Jakarta: 411 Individuals Receive Second Dose

RAY OF HOPE – The DKI Jakarta Health Service (Dinkes) has successfully completed the second dose of monkeypox (monkeypox/mpox) vaccination on 411 individuals who had previously received the first dose.

“There have been 411 people who have completed the mpox dose 2 vaccine,” said the Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Ngabila Salama, in his confirmation in Jakarta, Sunday 3 December 2023.

The second dose of vaccine was given four weeks or 28 days after the first dose, which took place between 23 October and 3 November 2023.

This step was taken in response to cases of monkey pox recorded in DKI Jakarta.

The DKI Jakarta Health Office has isolated and cured 28 of the total 44 cases of monkey pox detected throughout 2023. According to Ngabila, most of these positive cases have recovered from their disease.

A total of 41 cases were reported in Jakarta on Friday (1/12) evening, with patients aged 25-50 years, the majority male, and experiencing mild symptoms.

They are suspected of being infected from sexual contact. While some are still undergoing isolation in hospital, there are no new suspected cases, and another 150 people showed negative results on their PCR tests.

Ngabila also revealed that his party continues to monitor the development of monkey pox cases in Jakarta and its surroundings until November 24 2023.

Apart from DKI Jakarta, cases were also detected in West Java, Banten, East Java and the Riau Islands.

This monitoring was carried out by taking into account the incubation period for the monkeypox virus, which is six weeks since the first case of local transmission was discovered on October 13 2023 in Indonesia.

These steps were taken as part of efforts to stop the spread of this disease and maintain public health.***
