“Model Y is the Tesla everyone was waiting for”> teslamag.de

The US car connoisseur and well-known YouTuber Doug de Muro got his hands on one of the early Tesla Model Y models that had already been delivered and subjected the electric car to one of its extensive tests. He has a few small criticisms of the latest model, but is generally full of praise for it – and sees the Model Y as the best-rounded Tesla to date, which could become extremely popular given the general trend towards SUV crossovers.

“The Tesla that everyone wants”

The Model Y is very important for the company and the entire car market, says de Muro, because with it there is finally a relatively affordable family crossover from Tesla. The Model 3 was excellent and arrived that way, but customers in general were increasingly inclined to SUV-like cars. The Model Y can therefore “become the Tesla that everyone wants”.

De Muro has grown quite a bit, but still praises the space in the back seat of Model Y, at least for two people. In addition, the middle seat can be folded down individually to load longer goods; as the moderator criticized, a thick holding pin protrudes from the left seat. This is a strange design decision, but otherwise the new Tesla offers a lot of space and good storage tricks. Also amusing for de Muro: The seats are exactly the same as in Model 3, which is why they are mounted on risers in the crossover brother, as he shows.

Cheer in the performance Tesla

Accelerating in the performance variant of the Model Y always makes de Muro smile and cheer. The electric car is a little bit slower than the Model 3, but has significantly more space and utility – and the steering is still pleasantly direct. With Model Y, Tesla is entering a new segment that will be a big deal, “a new world” even. This applies in particular if the third row of seats becomes available for the Tesla crossover: It could then become a realistic and practical alternative to a minivan.

Overall, Model Y receives 68 out of 100 “Doug points” from de Muro – according to him, a truly excellent rating. The Tesla beats all other cars from the same house as well as the other SUVs and crossovers of comparable size on its test list. The Model Y is more practical than a Model 3 Performance (which is now in second Doug place), faster than a BMW X3 M Competition and has “better technology than pretty much everything”.
