Miscellaneous – Justice | The ear of a horse slashed in Istres, another injured hock in the Jura

The newspaper Provence reports that a horse had its ear slashed over 8 cm in Istres, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The daily adds, citing a source close to the investigation, that the act would be “voluntary”. Other horses nearby were not injured.

For several weeks, attacks have been increasing against horses and equines. Animals are subject to injuries, sometimes mutilations. One ear is often cut off. So far this has mainly concerned the northern part of France, but it tends to spread to the south of the country.

Friday, the Dauphiné Libéré reported that a mare had been disembowelled, and a pony injured in the ear, in the Vaucluse.

The origin of this phenomenon, which worries equestrian professionals the most, has not yet been determined.

Saturday, it is in Mirebel, in the Jura, that a young two-year-old foal was mutilated below the left hock, reports Progress. “The animal presented four deep notches, the shape of which can evoke letters of the alphabet. Without being able to distinguish a meaning there,” specifies the daily. Another horse, which was grazing in the same meadow, was reportedly sedated. This is the fifth case of a mutilated horse since the beginning of the month in the department.
