Miscellaneous – Justice | Domestic violence: the man who escaped from the gendarmerie arrested

A 60-year-old man, who escaped from the gendarmerie in early September where he was heard for attempted kidnapping of his wife, was finally arrested on Sunday.

He had fled the gendarmerie in Ghisonaccia (Haute-Corse) on September 2 and was found ten days later near Ajaccio, the prosecutor’s office said, confirming a report from France 3 Corse.

“He is currently presented before an investigating magistrate. The prosecution has requested that he be placed in pre-trial detention,” said Stéphanie Pradelle, deputy prosecutor of the Bastia prosecution.

At the end of his presentation before the examining magistrate, there will be a debate before the liberty and detention judge who will rule on his probable placement in detention.

Conditional prison

The man had been sentenced in immediate appearance on August 10 to ten months suspended imprisonment and two years of prohibition to approach his wife by the Bastia judicial court for acts of harassment. He appealed against this decision on August 12.

Just days later, he tried to kidnap his wife, who wanted a divorce. But this attempt had failed thanks to the intervention of a neighbor. The man then fled and was arrested two weeks later.

He had been remanded in custody at the Ghisonaccia gendarmerie brigade, where he resides. And he had run away, enjoying a moment of inattention from the investigator.

The wife’s family did not hide their fear from the local press, believing the woman to be in danger.
