While multiple assaults on horses have been perpetrated across France since August, the Dijon gendarmes took a big step forward on Monday, by arresting a 50-year-old man in the Haut-Rhin.

The latter is suspected of having inflicted abuse on a horse and two ponies in the Yonne. The man was taken into custody and searches carried out at his home have so far “not been very conclusive”.

However, according to the prosecutor, the suspect “is known in Germany for assaults on animals”, while in the territory he “is rather known for drug offenses”.

New assaults reported on Monday

Nationally, “more than 150 cases are being studied”, explained recently, Colonel Hubert Percie du Sert, coordinator of the investigation within the gendarmerie.

This Monday, around 6 p.m., a new investigation was opened in Haut-Doubs after the discovery of a horse with a scar of nearly 10 cm.

According to our colleagues from the Republican East, the animal’s vital prognosis is engaged.

In Arbois, in the Jura, a mare was also injured during the night from Sunday to Monday, from Le Progrès.

In Côte-d’Or, an investigation is underway

In Côte-d’Or, no assault has yet been reported by horse owners. However, two individuals, equipped with a cutter, were very interested in the equines of a meadow at a place called “Maison Dieu”, in Losne, in the night from Saturday to Sunday.

An injury was observed in a 15 year old male. On Sunday, the police had deployed a device of about forty men, supported by a helicopter and a dog team to find the suspects.

On Monday, the Dijon public prosecutor indicated that an investigation, entrusted to the local brigade with the assistance of the research brigade and the support of the research section of the gendarmerie, was underway “.
