Mink breeders think that they are ‘getting kicked after’ by MP D66

The House of Representatives is still struggling with a stop regulation for mink farms

In 2013, a law was passed prohibiting the keeping and killing of fur animals. The 120 mink farms that still exist in the Netherlands are allowed to remain open until 2024, but are not allowed to expand their business.

Due to the high number of corona infections, the sector is again being looked at. In July Ministers De Jonge and Schouten wrote all that all mink farms would be preventively culled if the number of infections continued to increase after 15 August. Because this is the case, but there is no final decision yet, mink breeders are eagerly awaiting this.

Part of the House of Representatives believes that a compensation scheme should be introduced for mink farmers, which should entice them to quit their business now. On the other hand, some parties wonder how useful it is to spend money on a sector that will have to stop after 2024 anyway.
