The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has asked employers of meal delivery services to let their employees download the corona app, it reports NRC Tuesday evening. Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) had just told the Lower House that employers were not allowed to ask this.
In an email to the Dutch Association for Meal Delivery Services (NLVVM), the ministry asks to let deliverers download the app in order to prevent unconscious infections. The email states that various organizations must be involved with CoronaMelder, so that as many people as possible have the app.
A spokesperson for the ministry informs the NRC that the ministry is indeed not allowed to ask this from the deliverers. It should have been emphasized that downloading the app is voluntary and the ministry will look at messages to other organizations for wording. Such messages would also have been sent to hospitals, schools and sports associations, among others.
The NLVVM has replied to the ministry that employees can only be informed about the app. MPs say to the NRC that they are concerned that citizens will feel pressure to install the app.
Hotline set up for abuse of CoronaMelder
A reporting center has already been set up for abuse of the CoronaMelder, whereby, for example, companies can be reported that require employees to install the app. This reporting point falls under the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate.
The CoronaMelder is currently being tested in five GGD regions. These are the regions of Drenthe, IJsselland, North and East Gelderland, Gelderland-South and Twente. The rollout of the app has been postponed. It is not possible to meet the deadline of September 1, because a necessary emergency law will not be ready by then.
