Rogelio Covarrubias, the medical director of the northern zone, pointed out that this vaccination campaign took place after the World Health Organization issued an epidemiological warning about measles, due to nine confirmed cases in the United States , one in Argentina, in Brazil and Peru, and in Mexico one was found, from a child four years and 8 months old, originally from Romania who stopped in London.

“With this background, I remember when there was a case of Covid (in Latin America), people asked how likely it was to reach Mexico, and there were quite a few; Here we have very important data, there are 120 thousand planes in the air every day, which carry 43.11 million people, so it arrived,” Covarrubias states.

He explained that measles is a viral disease, that each infected person could infect 18 more people and so on, that’s why we called this vaccine.

For vaccination, we work with four groups of 16 to 18 people who go to different neighborhoods from the center to the southeast of the city.

“The only thing we ask is that you show us your vaccination card, know the back and know which vaccine should be applied, I remind the -people that it is very important to keep track of the cards because vaccines save lives,” said Karla Villegas, vaccine manager.

The “Vaccination Recovery Scheme” campaign aims to move towards over 90 percent vaccination to reduce the pool of people susceptible to preventable diseases , said Dr. Alejandro Lugo, coordinator of the PASA program.
