Ministry of Health approved the application of third dose of vaccine against COVID-19

The Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos, announced this Friday that its sector approved the application of a third dose in Peru and that it will be placed in first-line health personnel, adults over 65 years of age and people with comorbidities.

In an interview with RPPHe pointed out that the third dose will be with the vaccines from the Pfizer and AstraZeneca laboratories, since there is international evidence of its efficiency in this application in other countries.

Hernando Cevallos He specified that, in the case of Sinopharm, despite the fact that it has given “good results” in Peru and the mortality rates of health personnel and the population that received this vaccine have decreased, there is still no evidence on its efficiency in the inoculation of a third dose.

“We do not have enough evidence that a third application of the Sinopharm vaccine is the most convenient to raise the defense of citizens,” he said.

Hernando Cevallos He added that the criteria for applying this booster dose will depend “on the availability of vaccines” in the country.
