Minister Sandiaga Says No Restrictions on Foreign Tourists to Indonesia Amid Pneumonia Outbreak

MAKASSAR, KOMPAS.com- Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno confirmed that up to now there have been no restrictions on foreign tourists to Indonesia, after the pneumonia outbreak broke out in China.

“As of today there are no (tourist restrictions), but we will continue to coordinate and evaluate,” explained Sandiaga when met by media crew in Makassar City, South Sulawesi (Sulsel), Friday (1/12/2023).

Since the pneumonia outbreak broke out in China, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) immediately carried out strict monitoring of tourists, especially from China.

“We are monitoring it closely in coordination with the Ministry of Health, as of today there have been no changes to the regulations, but we will evaluate it at the end of the year because as of today tourist visits from China have exceeded the target,” he said.

It is known that cases of a mysterious pneumonia outbreak affecting children have occurred in China in the last few days.

In addition, cases of mysterious pneumonia outbreaks in children were also reported in the Netherlands.

Regarding this condition, the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) through the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Identification issued a warning circular regarding the mysterious pneumonia outbreak that broke out in China.

This warning is contained in SE Number: PM.03.01/C/4632/2023 concerning Precautions against the Incident of Mycoplasma Pneumonia in Indonesia.

This letter is addressed to heads of provincial health services, heads of district/city health services, directors/heads of hospitals, heads of port health offices and heads of community health centers in Indonesia.

In the letter, Director General of Disease Prevention and Control Maxi Rein Rondonuwu said that the issuance of this circular was aimed at anticipating the spread of pneumonia in Indonesia.

He asked the Port Health Office (KKP) to monitor the development of cases and monitor infected countries at the global level.

Apart from that, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries was also asked to increase early awareness by monitoring cases of suspected pneumonia.
