Minister of Local Development instructs to raise preparedness for bad weather in Egyptian governorates

Major General Hisham Amna received a report this afternoon, Thursday, from the Ministry’s Operations and Crisis Management Room, about the governorates’ efforts and the measures and preparations they have taken to confront the wave of bad weather, heavy rains, bad weather conditions, and strong winds to which many governorates are exposed, and to follow up on removing rainwater accumulations and suctioning them from the streets. Major General Hisham Amna said that the operations room report indicated the continued efforts of the executive agencies in the governorates and the drinking water and sanitation companies to remove rainwater accumulations in some areas, stressing that there is continuous cooperation and coordination between the equipment of neighborhoods, centers, cities, local units, drinking water and sanitation companies, and the devices and affiliated bodies. The report indicated that it was decided to suspend classes today, Thursday, in all schools in three governorates: Dakahlia, Gharbia, and Kafr El-Sheikh, out of concern for the safety of our students, given the Meteorological Authority’s forecast that the aforementioned governorates will continue to be exposed to a wave of bad weather, heavy rain, and bad weather conditions.

The report of the Ministry’s Operations Room confirmed that in Dakahlia Governorate, the governorate was exposed to moderate rains, and the cities of Mansoura, Talkha, Belqas, and Gamasa also witnessed moderate and light rains. Suctioning and sweeping rainwater pools in all regions was immediately carried out in cooperation with the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company, under the supervision and follow-up of the heads of cities and centers and their deputies. The work of sweeping and suctioning rain accumulations in all areas continues until all water accumulations are completely removed from all areas.

Port Said Governorate also witnessed moderate rainfall throughout the governorate, resulting in some water accumulations along Mohamed Ali Street and in front of the Investment Zone, the Army Wall, and Al-Raswa Bridge, and work is underway to remove them.

The operations room report stated that in Gharbia Governorate, the local units, in coordination with the drinking water company and its branches, continue their efforts in dealing with the repercussions of the weather wave and rainfall, by directing sweeping vehicles to withdraw water, and sending the necessary teams and equipment to remove the rainwater pools in the streets of those cities and villages, and traffic. On the clear rains and field monitoring of the condition of streets and roads, monitoring the readiness of equipment and personnel and being fully prepared to confront any emergency events for rapid intervention, in addition to coordination with the electricity company to ensure that all electricity poles and transformers are secured, in addition to the presence of emergency teams and rapid intervention in emergency situations, and towing operations are continuing. Draining rainwater from tunnels and bridges in the governorate’s centers and cities to ensure regular operations to remove any water accumulations to ensure that rain does not impede traffic movement to avoid problems of increasing accumulated water.

The chamber’s report indicated that in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, the governorate witnessed rainfall of varying intensity on some governorate centers, resulting in water accumulations, and the local units are continuing their efforts in removing rain waste and sweeping water from the main road axes and streets with the participation of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company and the relevant sectors. .

The report pointed out that the governorates of Cairo, Qalyubia, and Menoufia were subjected to light to moderate rain falling on all neighborhoods of the governorates, resulting in water accumulations, and work is underway to remove them. The executive agencies in the three governorates also announced an increase in their level of readiness to deal immediately and drain all rainwater accumulations within the centers and cities that witnessed yesterday. Rainfall, in addition to the continued readiness of all individuals, vehicles, and equipment to deal immediately with emergency situations and take urgent measures in this regard.

In this context, the Minister of Local Development directed the governors to continue deploying all rapid intervention teams and equipment to confront the effects of the weather wave and heavy rainfall in some governorate centers, especially coastal cities, and to complete efforts to pump out accumulations and pools of rainwater from the side and side streets next to the main streets, waterfalls and bridge houses. As well as the vicinity of schools and universities so as not to impede the movement of students, citizens and cars in those areas, stressing the need for the heads of centers, cities, neighborhoods and local units to be present in the streets throughout the day to monitor the readiness of rain equipment and the readiness of the crews working on it to deal immediately with any developments, and to ensure that the suction vehicles are stationed in Places exposed to accumulations of rain can quickly withdraw water to reduce the effects of rain and not disrupt traffic on the streets.

Major General Hisham Amna assigned the Ministry’s Operations and Crisis Management Room to continue monitoring the situation in the governorates in continuous coordination with their central operations rooms, for rapid intervention to confront any emergency, and to coordinate with the Central Operations Room of the Council of Ministers in this regard to quickly deal with any emergency events.

The Minister of Local Development appealed to citizens to exercise caution and stay away from any trees, advertising signs, lighting poles, or high pressure, avoid driving at high speeds in cars, and maintain safety distances. To avoid traffic accidents until the weather conditions stabilize.
