Minister of Health Urges Public Not to Panic Over Dengue Fever Surge in Jakarta

Jakarta

Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin asked the public not to panic and worry about the increase in cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). Because, according to him, the hospital was ready to handle the case.

“For friends so you don’t panic, Jakarta Hospital still has enough space because our experience with COVID is that there are lots of facilities. So don’t worry,” said Budi at the State Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (28/3/2024) evening.

Budi emphasized that dengue fever is an infectious disease with the fourth level after malaria. Therefore, he asked the public not to panic.

“What I also want to convey is that dengue fever is ranked 4th, TB 1 million, HIV 500 thousand, malaria 400 thousand, dengue fever 120 thousand a year so that the context does not make people panic,” he said.

Budi then provided information to reduce the dengue fever rate. Budi said that his party had prepared larvicides and insecticides.

“The rubbish bin is so that there are no puddles. Second, we have prepared larvicide to kill larvae, we have prepared insecticide for fogging,” he said.

Budi suggested that if people start to feel a high fever, they should immediately be taken to the health center or hospital. So according to him it can be treated early.

“What is also important is to make sure that if, for example, your child has a fever, they have a rapid test or they are taken to a health center or hospital,” he said.

“Dengue’s fatality rate is low. So it’s affected, the deaths are very low because all hospitals already know that all they have to do is give an infusion, which is important, don’t be late,” continued Budi.
