Minister of Health Julio García Comesaña Announces Plans for New Health Sector Jobs and Vaccination Campaign Updates

The Minister of Health, Julio García Comesaña, has announced that he will call for around 1,000 and 1,200 new places in the next ordinary OPE, which will exhaust the replacement rate set by the Government for the year 2023.

This was stated in an interview on Radio Galega and reported by Europa Press, in which he stated that he will be transferred to the sectoral table on November 17.

The places will probably be published before the end of 2023, as Comesaña has pointed out, and that this proposal will be adjusted on the table.

Vaccination campaigns

The head of Health has detailed the different vaccination campaigns. Thus, there are more than 410,000 Galicians vaccinated against the flu and 365,000 against covid.

This difference of almost 50,000 people, according to Comesaña, is derived “fundamentally because Covid is there” and because many of the people mentioned cannot be vaccinated because they had Covid.

As for people over 80 years old who were summoned to the health center, they reached 75%, a figure that in those vaccinated against Covid stands at 72%.

“In Galicia we always reach very high percentages and we continue to insist that everyone gets the vaccine when called,” he added.

Regarding the flu vaccination of children between six and 59 months, Comesaña has stressed that the objective is to reach 60% and has explained that they have already called on parents to attend next weekend to hospital centers, with the aim of “facilitating” this vaccination.

Vaccination against respiratory syncytial virus is currently underway and “they are satisfied” with the result. Of the children born in the campaign, since September 25, who began vaccination, there are 92% of newborns and the health area of ​​A Coruña stands out.

“Then as for what we call rescue, which are those children who were already born when the campaign began, between April 1 and September 24, and the data stands at 84.58%,” he detailed.

Finally, in the high-risk and premature group, which are those born before April 1, but there is a specific condition that recommends vaccination and is at 100%.
