Minister of Defense again excludes compulsory military service: It is not practical and cannot be financially supported / In case of conflicts, only people with military service are mobilized

The Minister of Defense, Vasile Dîncu, on Monday again ruled out the option of compulsory military service, emphasizing that it is an effort that is not practical and cannot be financially supported. Dîncu also said that, in the CSAT, it was established the implementation of three laws to prepare Romania for possible crisis situations and underlined that only people with military service are mobilized, in case of conflicts.

“Compulsory military service would mean a huge cost for us, to have hundreds of thousands … In a generation of 200,000 people a year, we assume that we have a cohort of 400,000, half are men (.. .) You can’t support such an effort economically either “, Vasile Dîncu declared, on Monday evening, at Digi 24, according to News.ro.

The Minister of Defense excludes the possibility of returning to compulsory military service in Romania: “In no case will he return to compulsory military service. It’s not practical either. Today they are going on professional armies. It seems to me that some – and it is not propaganda, we even have official information – the most important part of the Russian troops that stumbled in Ukraine are young people without military training. They are new, they have come now and it is not an advantage for the Russian army at the moment “.

The Minister states that, even in case of mobilization, not all persons between certain ages can be mobilized, unless they have completed military service.

“You can’t deny any participation in a conflict as a citizen of a country, you can’t say that,” Dîncu said, adding that people without military training will not go to the front.

Dinku also said that returning to compulsory military service was not an option since January, when Russia had not yet invaded Ukraine.

Someone who didn’t join the army can’t go to the front

Vasile Dîncu said that no one can bring an untrained person to the army and no one who did not join the army can go to the front.

Dîncu stated to Digi24 that certain aspects were exaggerated regarding a draft of a law that had to be done quickly for this crisis situation.

“Some aspects have been exaggerated, such as the mobilization of those between 18 and 60. No law can say that, because the Constitution and the old laws of defense say that it is the active reserve of Romania, but that means that people work For example, there may be a number of law enforcement officers at the time who say you can’t go on vacation or resign, or anything else related to this area. to bring an untrained person into the army, even if he is 20 years old, cannot be taken to the front by someone who did not join the army. said Dîncu, according to Agerpres.

The minister detailed the package of three defense laws, which concern national security.

“The draft contains three important laws: the crisis management project, which is an older law, before the pandemic (…), the state of crisis is not defined in the Constitution and we have not tried to create a new state. The second component is the law on cyber-security, cyber defense – we now see that this is a very important component of threats – is ongoing and needs to be amended. (…) There were also amendments to Law 446/2006 – a law on defense which contains, for example, population mobilization, the mobilization of the economy, what the economy does in times of hypothetical war, and then contains very important regulations regarding the State Reserves and Special Situations Agency – we had to make changes not related to security or simply rules of organization “, Dîncu explained.

He said that the project that reached the press was proposed before the package of three laws was considered.

“We were thinking of making a law that would deal with this crisis situation right now, because we still have a health crisis, the crisis in Ukraine, and then a project should be made quickly for this crisis situation. several laws, pieces were taken from that package (…), an attempt was made to make a collage. that it was too much on its feet, and then we stick to the draft with the three laws that will be in a package. details that are enhanced by the current hybrid war, which Russia has been developing lately “, Dîncu added.
