Minister of Culture: ‘season lost, loss of turnover insoluble’ NOW

According to Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven (Education, Culture & Science), the spring season has been lost for the cultural sector. Moreover, she cannot solve the loss of turnover, says the minister in conversation with the Platform for the Cultural and Creative Future Labor Market on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, this season is really lost for the cultural sector,” says Van Engelshoven. “I look at the season guides for next year with pain in my heart.” In the minister’s opinion, it is not possible to move the highly seasonal activities of the cultural sector to autumn.

“The loss of turnover is many times greater than we can ever solve. We must also be realistic about that,” says Van Engelshoven about what she considers to be a “vital” cultural sector. “What I am aiming for is supporting the sector in such a way that when we go back to the new normal, there will be new demand as soon as possible and the culture chain will start working again.”

Van Engelshoven calls the corona measures for self-employed workers “not a fat spot and not fun if you fall under them.” The minister says that the measures covered by the Entrepreneur Affected Sectors Allowance COVID-19 (TOGS) are sufficient to get through “this difficult time”.
