Minedu: vaccination of children under 5 “was essential” for the return to face-to-face classes

Julisa Lozahead of Initial Education of the General Directorate of Regular Basic Education of the Ministry of Education (Minedu)pointed out today that the return to face-to-face classes at the initial level has been possible thanks to the “decision of mass vaccination of children under five years of age, teachers, assistants and administrators of educational services” in that school grade.

“The vaccination of five-year-old children, as well as teachers, assistants and administrators of educational services of Initial Educationit was a wise decision in the fight against the coronavirus and allowed to return to the classrooms with greater security to recover the learning”, he indicated.

As revealed by Loza, currently, an average of 745 thousand children under five years of age are immunized with first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and more than 520 mil count on two doses. while close to 170 thousand educational personnel that attends at the initial level have two doses and more than 140 thousand have three doses.

This advance in immunization against the coronavirus, according to the official, has allowed teachers to focus “on recovering the learning lost during the years of the pandemic and attending to the emotional well-being of girls and boys.” Likewise, she reiterated that her sector will continue to reinforce awareness campaigns aimed at the educational community completing the vaccination scheme.

These statements were given within the framework of the ninety-first celebration for the “Initial Education Day”. In this sense, Loza specified that, at the national level, there are 53,101 school and non-school educational services that comprise cycles I and II of the initial level.

In cycle I (from 0 to 2 years old) there are 84,180 girls and boys enrolled at the national level, and in cycle II (from 3 to 5 years old) there are 1,459,461 up to the present month of May.
