Miguel Oliveira starts from seventh place in GP Styria – MotoGP

Portuguese was eighth in qualifying, but rises one place in the face of Zarco’s penalty

Miguel Oliveira will start tomorrow from the third row of the starting grid at the Styrian Grand Prix, having finished qualifying in eighth position. However, benefiting from the fact that Zarco starts from boxing – due to penalty -, the Portuguese driver starts from 7th place.

The Almada rider, who in free practice guaranteed the direct passage to the second stage of qualifying (Q2), made the eighth fastest time but benefited from the penalty attributed to Frenchman Johann Zarco (Ducati) on Friday to gain a position on the grid. The day was historic for KTM, which achieved a ‘pole position’ for the first time in the main category of speed motorcycling, by the Spanish Pol Espargaró, with a time of 1.23.580 minutes.

Miguel Oliveira, who had the fourth fastest time of the session, finished 217 milliseconds of the Spaniard, leaving the third row of the grid, together with the Italian Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) and the French Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), leader of the championship.

This was the second best qualification of the Portuguese driver of the Tech3 team, after the fifth place achieved in the Andalusian GP, in the second race of the World Championship.

The Styrian MotoGP GP is the 900th GP in history and is scheduled for Sunday at 1 pm (Lisbon time).
