Migrants throw grenades at Polish soldiers at Belarus border Abroad

According to Poland, migrants would also throw stun grenades, which give a bright bang and flash but are not fatal. They are often used in police raids to disorient suspects. According to the Polish Ministry of Defense, the migrants received the grenades from Belarusian services.

In the border area there are frequent clashes between desperate migrants, mainly from the Middle East, who have been directed to the EU border by the regime of Aleksandr Lukashenko. At least ten migrants have died. Poland, which does not allow independent observers into the area, has stationed at least 15,000 military personnel at the border in addition to border guards and police officers.

More than 5,000 attempts to cross the border have been counted so far this month. Lithuania and Latvia also see a significant increase. The three countries have declared a state of emergency at the border and reinforced parts of the border with fences and barbed wire.

Lukashenko’s regime is helping migrants travel in retaliation for European sanctions imposed on Belarus for cracking down on protesting civilians. The EU countries have imposed sanctions for this and will also do so in connection with human smuggling. The controversial leader said he would again not seek a confrontation on Tuesday.
