Microsoft Secures Temporary Approval from British Competition Authority for Activision Blizzard Acquisition

Microsoft, the owner of Xbox devices, has come a long way in removing the last obstacle that prevents it from acquiring Activision Blizzard, the creator of the “Call of Duty,” “Diablo,” and “Candy Crush” games.

The huge acquisition, worth $69 billion, is part of Microsoft’s very expensive bet to strengthen its position in the gaming sector, and to help the successful console produced by Xbox compete with Sony’s PlayStation devices.

The British Competition Authority announced yesterday that it had given temporary approval to the new agreement concluded by the American giant Microsoft to acquire Activision Blizzard.

The British authority spoke in a statement of “limited remaining concerns” regarding this merger, but “Microsoft has proposed solutions” that would dispel them.
