Microsoft Revenue Surges 18% to $62 Billion, Surpassing Analyst Estimates, and Dethroning Apple as Most Valuable Company

Revenue rose 18 percent to $62 billion in the quarter ended Dec. 31. At the same time, according to data from LSEG, analysts estimated them at an average of $61.1 billion, Reuters wrote.

Strong demand for cloud services contributed to the growth of the company’s overall sales. The division’s revenue, which includes the Azure cloud platform, increased by 20 percent to $25.9 billion. Azure revenue grew 30 percent.

In November, Microsoft began selling Copilot, a service that uses AI. It can summarize the contents of an e-mail box or create a presentation.

Microsoft’s value has surpassed three trillion dollars

The rise in Microsoft shares has helped dethrone Apple as the most valuable company traded on the stock exchange in the past few sessions. Investors appreciated Microsoft’s efforts to develop AI and its strategic partnership with the start-up OpenAI, which launched the chatbot ChatGPT.

“Microsoft has had another excellent quarter, also thanks to the implementation of artificial intelligence technology in its products,” stated XTB analyst Tomáš Cverna. “The intelligent cloud was once again at the forefront of the results. The company saw an increase in sales in the personal computing division, which had been struggling with a decline for a long time, thanks to the settlement of the acquisition of the video game studio Activision Blizzard,” he added.

Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard last October. The value of the transaction was 69 billion dollars (1.58 trillion CZK). Microsoft’s largest transaction in its 48-year history allowed it to increase its position in the video game market and better compete with the leader in this segment, Sony.
